William Gabler - Class of 1967

William Gabler - Class of 1967

Mr. William Gabler graduated from Newman High in the spring of 1967. After graduating, Mr. Gabler attended and graduated from Lorras College in Dubuque, Iowa in 1971. In 1974, he graduated from Marquette University with a degree in Law. For twenty-five years, he worked in private practice. Two of those years were in Marshfield and the other Twenty-three were in Eau Claire. In

September of 1999, Mr. Gabler became a State of Wisconsin Circuit Court Judge. I le retired nineteen years later, in 2018. When asked about how Newman prepared him for life after High School, he had many, many examples, but one that greatly impacted him was a quote that he mentioned by former principal Father Francis Hillesheim, "Tone of the House." This phrase brought in questions such as; "am I respectful, am I serious about my education, and do we act out our Catholic beliefs?" This was said over the PA system with the goal of impressing the ideas, attitudes, goals, and beliefs of Newman on each student. "Tone of the House" stuck with William through his time as a lawyer. He would always keep this phrase in mind while being in a position of leadership at his law firm and how he would try to handle his cases in the courtroom.
