Athletic Fields Renovation
Great things are happening at Newman Catholic Schools!
Newman Catholic Schools has concluded the We Belong to Christ Capital Campaign and we are incredibly grateful to all Newman stakeholders and our supporting parishes for the great outpouring of pledges and support. The campaigns realized pledges of $1,790,092 for our Catholic schools, with $1,062,354 targeted for debt reduction and $726,708 for Newman capital projects! The NCS Booster Club also pledged $200,000 restricted to the fields renovation project. We are simply overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity. Thank you for your support!
Newman has completed several capital renovations and started others. These projects are completed outside of the operating budget. NCHS windows were replaced in several classrooms and the blessing and dedication of our new Science lab was held in January 2009. Phase One of the NCHS Athletic Fields renovation began in the fall of 2009, including upgrades to the football and soccer fields, seeding, irrigation and resurfacing the track.
This is just the beginning! The pledges from the We Belong To Christ Campaign and Booster Club are in excess of the amount necessary to cover Phase One, however; not all of the project money has been collected to date. Campaign pledges are spread over 5 years, and are only at the Year 2 or 3 point. As contributions are made to the campaign, accounts managed through the Diocese of La Crosse, debt retirement and capital project funds are credited on a quarterly basis. Under Diocesan regulations, credit is made when actual cash is received.
We hope to complete as much of Phase One as funds allow this summer, however NCS cannot borrow funds against pledges. At this time, it appears that we need about $35,000 in actual cash to finish the excavation, irrigation, seeding and fencing work that was started last fall. To finish resurfacing the track requires another $156,000 in actual cash.
