PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Graduation requires 1.5 credits of Physical Education and 0.5 credits of Health.


PHYSICAL EDUCATION I
Credit 0.5 Required, Grades 9-11 - Semester I or II Each yr.
Co-ed physical education. Introduction to a wide variety of lifelong physical activities, development of basic skills, as well as physical fitness, team and individual activities and cardiovascular fitness are emphasized.

HEALTH EDUCATION
Credit 0.5 Required, Grades 9-12 - Semester I or II Each yr.
The basic aim of the health program is to stress healthy choices and decision making in all aspects of the students’ lives. The program teaches students the skills necessary to weigh options that occur in life, to make responsible decisions, and to develop behaviors that promote a healthy lifestyle.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION II & III
Credit 0.5 Required, Grades 9-12 - Semester I or II Each yr.
Prerequisite: Students must have completed Physical Education I. Further development of proficiency in activities is stressed as a goal, along with a better understanding of the teamwork and self-discipline aspects of physical fitness. Continued emphasis is placed on cardiovascular conditioning, as well as working towards a carry-over in the area of lifetime activities. Loyalty, cooperation, initiative, self-control and courtesy are further emphasized as aspects of sportsmanship.

PERSONAL FITNESS
Credit 0.5 Elective, Grades 10, 11, & 12 - Semester I Each yr.
Prerequisite: Students must have completed Physical Education I. Minimum number of students required for class to be offered
NOTE: This class will be offered as a zero hour course (6:45 – 7:30 a.m.). It allows students the option to select an additional study hall.
The purpose of this course is for students to become familiar with the principles related to developing a personal fitness program, and for students to implement their own program during the semester. Students will work to develop and improve muscular strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular endurance by participating in a variety of low to high-impact fitness activities.

LIFETIME SPORTS
Credit 0.5 Required/Elective,Grades 11,12 - Semester I or II Each Yr.
Prerequisite: Student must have completed Physical Education I, II and III.
NOTE: Minimum number of students required for class to be offered. Parent volunteers are needed to drive students to off-site locations. Fees may be required for some of the activities.
The purpose of this course is to give the students exposure to various indoor and outdoor sports/activities that they can incorporate into their lifestyle either by themselves, or with friends or family. Activities include golf, tennis, racquetball, bowling, hiking, fishing, archery, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing.
**Parents will be required to provide transportation for students to some of the activities.
