Stephen Schmidt coached Anita Hoffmann, Megan Vesel, Craig Ogurek, Nicholas Cornell and Samuel McCarty.

The first-place team from Marshfield High School won an all-expenses paid trip to Seward, Alaska, to compete in the national competition on April 25-27, 2008.

The National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB) sponsors this regional tournament in ocean sciences coordinated by the UWM School of Continuing Education, UWM Great Lakes WATER Institute and the UW Sea Grant Advisory Services. Over 100 local scientists and other experts officiate.

This educational program was developed to stimulate interest in the ocean sciences among high school students and demonstrate to the public the importance of the oceans in our daily lives. One of the long-term goals of the program is to foster the next generation of marine scientists, educators and policy makers for the ocean sciences. The bowl is an academic tournament that provides a forum for students who excel in math and science. The rapid-fire question and answer format includes categories in physics, chemistry, biology and geology of the oceans and Great Lakes.
