Leon and Carol Zieglmeier celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 2, 2010. Leon and Carol were blessed with three children, Todd ‘79, Alan ‘82, and Jean ’84. They celebrated with family and friends at a Mass and Blessing at St. Therese Catholic Church, followed by a brunch in the Church Hall.

6/7/10 Ronald Leptien received the Chancellor’s Award for the fall 2009 semester at the University of WI-Stout.

2008 Notes

1/26/09 Val Schuster, a freshman at the University of Cincinnati, was a lone bright spot for the Bearcats in their 65-34 loss to top-ranked UConn. Schuster played 19 minutes, scoring 11 points, including three 3-pointers, and had five rebounds and two steals. Schuster was complimented after the game by UConn’s coach Geno Auriemma.

2007 Notes

Kaitlin Wolfe '07 enjoyed a stellar sophomore season with Southern Wesleyan University, earning honorable mention All-American honors by the NCCAA. She was a SSAC second-team all conference, NCCAA South Region first team and part of the SSAC all-academic team.

3/23/10 Dann Schneider a junior at St. Norbert College, earned All-American in the 400 meters for the second-consecutive year at the Division III indoor track and field championships. The honor is given to the top eight in each event. During the season, he set a school record in the indoor 200 meters and twice earned the Midwest Conference Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.

7/11/10 Malinda Hoffmann was named to the fall 2009 dean’s list at Marquette University in Milwaukee.

2006 Notes

Leah Lemke '06 scored 27 points to lead Carroll University to a 82-64 non-conference win over the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Leah has started for all of Carroll’s games and averaged 10.4 points per game.

Vincent Howard a senior at Marquette University of Milwaukee, will participate in the Kapco Charitable Challenge. His team will compete against 14 other teams from three colleges in an effort to do the most good in the Milwaukee area. His team, called Men Serving Others, plan to help an agency called Repairers of the Breach, a daytime homeless shelter.

3/30/10 Amanda Hollis was named to the fall 2009 dean’s list at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Bethany Gutsch ’04 and Jeremy Hoffmann ’04 were married June 14, 2008 in Wausau.

Tana De Lonay won Central Wisconsin’s Idol competition August 10, 2008. De Lonay was judged the winner out of 13 entrants to the competition, which was held before an audience of about 100. She won roundtrip airfare and hotel expenses for an audition before “American Idol” producers August 18 in New Jersey.

Kyle Bender graduated with a BS degree in business administration from UW-Stevens Point.

Paula Buntin graduated magna cum laude, from UW-Stevens Point with a BA degree in interior architecture.

Michael Rosenthal received the Chancellor’s Award for the spring 2008 semester at the University of Wisconsin-Stout.

Eric McManus was named to the University of Wisconsin Marathon County dean’s list with High Honors for the spring 2008 semester.

Nicole Gassner graduated in May 2008 from Marquette University with a BS degree in bio-medical sciences.

Jesse Burish was ordained into the transitional diaconate October 9, 2008 at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. Deacon Burish plans to be ordained next June as a priest for the Diocese of La Crosse.

Erin Gress and Nathan Long were married November 3, 2007 in Wausau.

Meaghan Cotter ’00 and Daniel Sherer announced their engagement. The wedding is planned for October 10, 2009 at St. Therese’s Catholic Chuch in Rothschild.

Jamie Mikula ’00 and David Silver celebrated their one year anniversary. They were united in marriage on July 19, 2008 at Holy Name Parish in Wausau.

Tony Schultz and wife Kat Becker were recently named Marathon County’s Outstanding Young Farmers of 2008. The husband and wife team, both 28 years old, raise Scottish highland cattle, Herefords and Galloway cattle on their farm, Stoney Acres Farm. Their farm was certified organic in 2008.

Abby Mroczenski is a Marketside Forecaster at Wisconsin Public Service Corp. in Green Bay, WI.

Elizabeth Sanders ’98 and Chad Bergo were married June 20, 2009, at Saint Matthews Catholic Church, Wausau.

Kathyryn Steinlage graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Master’s in Education. She is employed with the University of Notre Dame as Assistant Director of ACE Fellowship.

Robyn Magalska currently is employed as a Youth Minister for St. John the Evangelist, in Hopkins, MN.

Blia (Yang) Vang graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison with a B.S. in nursing. She and husband Daniel reside in Covington, LA.

Scott Kressig ‘96 and Dana Moore were married in Jamaica on February 23, 2009.

Paul Michlig ’96 will receive the Wisconsin Track Coaches Association’s award for District II Girls Coach of the Year. Michlig also won the WISTCA District II Boys Coach of the Year award following the 2007 season. Michlig is the head coach for Newman Catholic Schools’ girls track and field, and football team.

Jeremy Cynkar is an Architect with Destree Design Architects in Madison, WI. His wife, Paula (Gottschalk) is a Physician Assistant in Transplant at UW Hospital, Madison. They welcomed the birth of their daughter Keira Brianne Cynkar, born February 20, 2007.

In August 2008, Officer Don Seubert with the Merrill Police Department spoke to first-grade students at St. Francis School about his role and duties as a police officer. Seubert explained how he and fellow officers keep people and children safe.

Michael Spletter is the Director of Student Activities at Lee College in Baytown Texas. He helped coach the Ladies Tennis Team to the National Championship for Junior Colleges which was held in Tucson, AZ on 5-10-07.

Jeffrey Polzer is a Professor of Organizational Behavior at Harvard Business School. Professor Polzer teaches the second-year MBA course Leading Teams and the doctoral course Human Behavior. His research investigates factors that improve team performance. At the individual level, he studies how group affiliations affect people’s decisions, perceptions, and social interactions, especially in diverse work teams. Professor Polzer has published in the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Administrative Science Quarterly, Journal of Conflict Resolution, Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Psychological Science, and Small Group Research. He also serves on the editorial boards of ASQ, AMJ, and OBHDP. Professor Polzer is the son of Newman graduates, Tom ’60 and Sally ’60 Polzer.

Tammy(Prinz)Johnson, resides in Noblesville, IN with her husband, Patrick and their 2 daughters, Kelsey 15, and Emily 12. Her sons Lee and James reside in Wausau. Lee Jonas IV was recently elected to the Rib Mountain town council as a Town Supervisor and James Jonas is a full-time student at the U of W-Stevens Point where he is pursuing an Elementary Education degree. Tammy and her husband Pat are co-owners in RJ Alumninum Co. and she is currently the showroom manager at Westfield Winnelson Company.

Michael Tetzlaff received his Ph.D in Philosophy (Cognitive Studies specialization) from the University of Maryland, College Park. He currently is a lecturer at the same university, teaching Contemporary Moral Issues and Perspectives on Mind. He and wife Sylvia live in Montpelier, MD. Sylvia is a Commander in the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service.

Roger Lang was awarded the Silver Beaver Award from the Samoset Council Boy Scouts of America. The award is the highest adult award given and is meant to recognize adult Scouters who have contributed much personal time over many years to serving young people through the Boy Scouts of America program.

Rosemary (Nowak) Kanitz has been a bookkeeper/card specialist and cashier at the Wausau Walgreen Drugs for 37 years.

1963 Notes

Fred Pasnecker retired from his parole and probation agent job of 31 years in 2004. In 2006, Fred became a volunteer tutor for the Marathon County Literacy Council. The council offers one-on-one and small classroom tutoring for about 250 students at either the Marathon County Public Library or the Community Corner Clubhouse. Fred has done both. He recommends the job to anyone. Fred said: “It’s really the art of communication that makes a volunteer a good tutor.”

Tommy Lee Bychinski will be inducted into the Wisconsin Broadcasters Hall of Fame in June 2009. “Mr. Radio” in Reedsburg at WRDB/WNFM, Tommy Lee had a 44-year career in radio built on a foundation of community service and involvement.

George ’58 and Carla Waldvogel celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on April 4th, 2009. They celebrated at the Wausau Elks Club with their children, grandchildren, relatives, and their special friend Father Joe Rafacz of St. Agnes Parish.
