FACTS - Frequently Asked Questions:
How can I be assured these transactions are secure?
When you consider bank research shows as many as ten people handle a check from the time it is written until the funds are deducted from your account, ACH transactions are far more secure than writing checks. With electronic payments, the transactions pass electronically through the banking system.
How do I make changes once my agreement is on the FACTS system?
If you need to change information such as address, phone number, email address, or banking information, contact your school or a FACTS representative at 800-624-7092. If you want to discuss changing the payment date or payment amount, you MUST contact your school, and your school will need to notify FACTS if any such changes are to be made. All changes must be received by FACTS at least two (2) business days prior to the automatic payment date in order to affect the upcoming payment.
If payments are made automatically from my bank account or processed to my credit card, does that mean FACTS/American Card Services (ACS) or the school listed on my agreement has direct access to my account?
No. This is a common misconception about automatic payments. No one other than you and your financial institution has access to your account. When you set up automatic payments through FACTS/ACS, you have authorized a specific payment amount to be paid on a specific date by your bank or to be processed to your credit card.
Is my information kept private?
At FACTS, we are committed to doing all we can to ensure your privacy and the security of the information you provide. To honor that commitment, we have several policies and procedures in place. 1) We do not share any nonpublic information with unauthorized third parties. 2) To protect the information from access by unauthorized parties, FACTS maintains physical, procedural and electronic safeguards. 3) To help protect your privacy, the Responsible Party may create a FACTS Access Code on the FACTS agreement. (If an access code is not provided on the agreement, one will be randomly assigned.) This access code and agreement number must be provided by you or any Additional Authorized Party when making inquiries into your account, whether online or over the phone.
May I set up a separate checking or savings account for making my payments?
Yes. Many people choose to establish an account separate from their primary checking or savings account for their automatic payments. Please note: The person authorizing payments must be a signer on the bank account provided. In addition, please check with your financial institution to make certain the account can be used to process automatic payments.
What are the benefits of making payments through FACTS?
We provide several benefits for both you and your school. We help the school by greatly decreasing delinquent payments, reducing the costs of collecting tuition, and providing dependable cash flow. We also assist with the institution's tuition accounting and report preparation. In addition, we provide you a low cost, convenient way to budget payments. We help families like yours meet their financial obligation in a simple, convenient way that is completely confidential and secure. Because it is not a loan program, you have no debt, there are no interest or finance charges assessed and there is no credit check.
What happens if I miss a payment?
Only a small percentage of those who pay through the FACTS program ever miss a payment. However, if you do miss a payment, you will receive a letter from FACTS with instructions on how the missed payment will be handled. You will also be assessed a $30 FACTS Missed Payment Fee for each missed payment attempt. This fee is charged, in part, to offset the fees FACTS is assessed by our financial institution when your payment is missed.
What if I have a question about my agreement with FACTS or want to print my payment history?
You may check balances, tuition paid, print reports and payments scheduled by viewing your account online at www.factsmgt.com and choose MyFACTS from the Hot Links drop-down menu. You may also call our toll free number to speak with a service representative who can assist you and answer your questions. What if my payment date falls on a weekend or holiday?
If the payment date falls on a weekend or holiday, the payment will be attempted the following business day.
What is the Peace of Mind Benefit?
A death in a student's family can disrupt his/her academic life due to the potential loss of educational funds. To prevent such a disruption, individuals enrolled in the FACTS Payment Plan are provided the opportunity to enroll in the FACTS Peace of Mind Benefit. 1) Coverage begins when the Responsible Party signs the FACTS agreement. 2) Once the nonrefundable fee has been received by FACTS, in the event of the death of the Responsible Party or his/her legal spouse, FACTS will pay the remaining unpaid balance up to $30,000 (except payments in arrears) on the agreement. 3) The Peace of Mind Benefit is available to individuals who are under 70 at the time coverage begins. 4) Coverage does not apply when cancer or complications related to cancer cause death, and the individual has received or been advised to receive medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment for cancer at the time coverage begins.
What should I do if I change financial institutions?
Contact your school's central office or the FACTS office at 800-624-7092. Be sure to have your FACTS agreement number and FACTS Access Code available and the new banking information. The person listed on the FACTS agreement must be an authorized signer on the new account. For your protection, only the responsible party and additional authorized party can change banking information.
When will payments begin?
When your agreement is received by FACTS, we send you a letter confirming the original terms of your agreement. This includes payment amount, balance due, and date you authorized payments to begin. Payments will continue until the total balance is paid in full.
When will the funds be withdrawn from my bank account?
Although FACTS specifies the date each payment will occur, it is your financial institution that determines the time of day the payment is debited from your account. FACTS recommends you check with your financial institution to determine how far in advance the funds should be deposited into your account to ensure the automatic payment clears.
